Following his hippo hunt feature earlier in the year, Byron accompanies professional hunters Larno and Elaine and their clients. The team have three crocodile permits left between them and only two days’ hunting in which to fill them. With the waters of the mighty Chobe as high as they are, no hunt will be easy, and to get a sure shot that anchors the croc and ensures good practice, the hunters must drift in dangerously close.
Away from the jaws of death, Byron reviews the Mauser M03, the modern version of the classic Mauser 98 action with an abundance of appealing features including a switch-barrel design and an integrated safety and cocking mechanism. But enough about the technical specs – how does it shoot? We find out.
