It’s August 2018 in this week’s From the Archives, and as we enter the roe rut season, we’re taking you back to a dramatic shoot with Pete Carr.

The Shooting Show’s director Pete heads out to grass a pre-rut summer buck on his home turf.

With all else failing, he resorts to a risky tactic: bump a buck from where it’s laid up in a rape field, then hope it pauses for a safe shot on its way out.

It’s all well and good but it’ll only leave a split second to execute a safe and successful shot.

Time to see if Pete’s quick enough on the draw…
